Written by Mini Mabel, Chihuahua Detective Extraordinaire
Well hello there, my loyal readers! It’s me again, your favourite four-legged detective, reporting from the festive streets of Truro where I’ve been working my tiny paws to the bone on a very important mission: Christmas shopping!
Now, I know what you’re thinking : “Mini Mabel, how does a Chihuahua manage the complex logistics of holiday gift procurement?” Let me tell you, it takes skill, determination, and an excellent sense of smell to sniff out the perfect presents.
First Stop: Pennyworths Sweet Shop
My mission began at the delightful Pennyworths sweet shop, where the aroma of confectionery practically had my nose doing overtime. While Dad popped inside to make his selections, I held down the fort outside and had the most marvellous encounter! I met a gorgeous black Labrador, absolutely beautiful and bouncy, with that infectious enthusiasm that only Labs possess. We had a lovely little chat (well, sniff and wag, really) before he informed me he was on his way to the vets for a check-up. Brave fellow! I wished him well and watched him leave.
Dad emerged with Black Jacks and Milk Flavour Chews for himself (because nothing says “I love you” quite like chewy nostalgia) plus some stocking fillers for Arnaud. Mission accomplished, and a new friend made to boot!
Happy Piranha: Anime Headquarters
Next, we ventured into Happy Piranha, and let me tell you, I felt right at home! After all, when I get my teeth into things (usually socks, occasionally important documents), I transform into what the family lovingly calls a “Chihuanha” : shredding with the ferocity of a piranha! It’s a hobby, really. An art form, if you will.
But I digress! I supervised the selection of some brilliant Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia merchandise for Arnaud. Now, some might be surprised to learn that I’m actually quite the anime enthusiast! I watch them with Arnaud all the time! There’s nothing quite like curling up on the sofa for a good binge session. I find the dramatic storylines quite gripping, though I do think some of these heroes could benefit from my detective skills. I’m sure the staff there appreciated having such a cultured canine customer in their midst.
Enjoy Clothing: An Unplanned Photo Op
At Enjoy Clothing Truro, Mum got a bit distracted (humans, am I right?). We weren’t shopping for HER, but she found some bits she liked anyway. However, the real highlight was when I posed for an absolutely adorable photograph with Pluto! As a fellow dog, I felt an instant connection. I mean, we both have that certain je ne sais quoi that makes us irresistible to photographers. The picture turned out magnificently! I looked particularly dashing if I do say so myself.

The Perfect Ending: Kellaways Fish & Chips
After a hard day’s shopping, we concluded our expedition with some well-deserved chips from Kellaways for the drive home. The smell alone was enough to make this detective’s mouth water! There’s something about post-shopping chips that just hits differently, you know?

All in all, a thoroughly successful shopping expedition. Presents acquired, photo opportunities seized, and chips consumed. That’s what I call a productive day in Truro!
Until next time, keep your noses sharp and your tails wagging!
